Time Travel March 1st

First of March in 1974, saw Queen commence their first headlining UK tour at The Winter Garden’s Blackpool.  This began a tremendous era for the heavy rock, metal, folk, progressive band.  Enough styles of music in one set to send you Stone Cold Crazy you know? This footage is from the same tour but later in the month.

March 1st 1980, Blondie were at the top of the UK singles chart with ‘Atomic’.  This was the group’s third UK hit single from their album ‘Eat To The Beat’.

Tragically on this day in 1994, Nirvana played their final ever concert when they appeared at The Terminal Einz in Munich, Germany. The venue was a small Airport Hanger and only held three thousand people. When the electricity cut-out, Nirvana played a spur-of-the-moment acoustic set.

1997 saw the introduction of one of the more unique ideas to occur in the music world.  On the 1st of March ‘Bowie Bondsâ’ were issued on the US Stock Exchange. Linked to David Bowie‘s back catalogue albums with money earned on the bonds via interest from royalties, investor expected to make 7.9% profit over a ten-year period.  Bowie made US$55 mill off the deal to enable him to buy his own songs which were then owned by his previous manager.
