“This Is Your Life, And It’s Ending One Minute At A Time”

This is your life, Chuck. True enough, it’s ending one minute at a time, just like all of our lives. Nevertheless (and all the more), we wish you a happy 55th birthday!

Chuck who?

Chuck Palahniuk, the guy responsible for one of the greatest cinema phenomena of the nineties.

He is the author of the award-winning novel “Fight Club”. Sounds familiar now? I thought so.

“Fight Club”, the novel, was published on August 17, 1996, and it didn’t wait too long for a film adaptation. It waited only three years, to be precise.

And what a bang of a film that was! The true end of a century’s masterpiece. Everything just clicked. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in their prime, inspired David Fincher, great music, and of course, great script.

And what Palahniuk thought of the film? Well, this is what he said for “DVD Talk”: “The first time I saw dailies of the movie was when I went down to the film’s location, and David Fincher would drag me off the set to his trailer to show me dailies. He would be watching me for my reaction, and I had little or no idea where these scenes fit together. Here were these wonderful reaction shots and things like that which seemed so random, beautifully composed, attractive and funny in their own way, but I had no idea how they went together”; and: “…because the movie had streamlined the plot and made it so much more effective and made connections that I had never thought to make.”

Oh, yes, there is “Fight Club” video-game, but the less we say about that particular horror, the better.

Chuck Palahniuk has made a mark on an entire generation, and it’s more than most of us could say for ourselves. Thank you Chuck, and happy birthday again.
