Queens of the Stone Age release a new album

QOTSA 2007

One of the greatest “stoner rock” bands (even though they reject that term) are on tour. Yes, you got it right – the band in question is “Queens of the Stone Age”, and this summer we will have a double treat. They are already in the middle of their world tour, and today they will release their seventh studio album, “Villains”.

Judging by their first single from the upcoming album, “The Way You Used To Do”, we are in for a treat indeed! Pitchfork’s Zoe Kamp wrote this about the song: “Between the bristling, speaker-bursting blues chords and sinister lyrics—“Gave birth to monsters who will terrorize normalcy,” Homme, croons coyly—the scrappy cut proves far more reminiscent of 2007’s similarly unkempt Era Vulgaris than the polished “Uptown Funk.””

“Queens of the Stone Age” were formed by Josh Homme, following the break up of his previous (also great) band “Kyuss”. Alongside Homme, the current lineup includes Troy Van Leeuwen (guitar, lap steel, keyboard, percussion, backing vocals), Michael Shuman (bass guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Dean Fertita (keyboards, guitar, percussion, backing vocals), and Jon Theodore (drums, percussion).

The band had many changes in personnel, with Homme being the single band’s constant member. When asked if he will finally settle with one lineup, Homme replied: “Artistic relationships don’t last. I want them to but I don’t expect them to. They’re like an orange. You get all the juice you can and you don’t sit there holding the rind for the rest of your life. I expect them to have an ending point. When they do last a long time I just think, God, how big is this orange!”
